Foraging for Color: A Natural Dye Workshop

September 10, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Event Navigation

Workshop fee: $66

Explore the color growing around us in this hands-on natural dyeing workshop. We’ll forage for natural dye plants growing around The Plant in Pittsboro, NC like goldenrod, ironweed, oak leaves, and pokeberry, then use them to dye our own natural fiber clothes or textiles. We’ll explore eco-printing, a process of printing on fabric by arranging plants, rolling the fabric, and steaming it to set the color. Participants are encouraged to bring a piece of light-colored clothing or fabric made primarily from natural fiber to dye (cotton, linen, hemp, wool, or silk).

This workshop is suitable for beginners. Foraging will involve walking through wild natural areas for 1-2 hours, so please be prepared for being on your feet in August weather. Bring water, a hat, sunscreen and bug repellent if desired. Ticks are out there, so closed-toe shoes and long pants are encouraged.

This workshop is hosted by Abundance NC, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that envisions flourishing communities of belonging rooted in ritual, and wild connections, committed to our collective liberation.
